As Canada’s leading digital marketing, innovation and experience design college,  we will be showcasing how we redefine education to aspiring designers, marketers and developers, with a “Hack to School” sampling event and free classes at the upcoming EDITDX.

Mandy Gilbert, Co-Founder of RED Academy Toronto

“There’s a shortage of qualified talent in the fields we represent. Hack To School is a chance to participate in our programs, at no cost, and experience first-hand how RED eliminates the gap between traditional learning and the needs of leading companies,” says Mandy Gilbert, Co-Founder of RED Academy Toronto which opened a year ago in King West. The private college offers unparalleled part and full-time programs in digital marketing (the only school in the city to offer it full-time), UX/UI design, web and app development, emerging technologies, and its newest addition: RED Labs, an exclusive skills and portfolio accelerator for experienced students.

Our learning environment at RED simulates what it’s like to work at a bustling agency (and looks like one too), on high-profile projects, with brands like Lendified, Big Brothers Big Sisters and AT&T. “Students at RED Academy work on real, high-impact client challenges, so they can build exceptional portfolios and gain the skills they need,” adds Gilbert who doubles as founder of Creative Niche, a reputable recruiting firm. She explains having a great portfolio is the advantage when interviewing with top organizations. “RED delivers projects that push students out of their comfort zone, into a level of creative and technical confidence, so they can tackle today’s rapidly evolving market.”

What makes a RED hot portfolio?

  1. Demo Your Breadth and Depth – Demonstrate various project types (web, apps, digital ads, etc.) using a range of creative solutions and styles, from simple to complex.
  2. Show Artifacts and Approaches – Provide a solid toolbox of hard skills with examples. These vary per role, i.e.  wireframes, information architectures, prototypes, style guides, functional specifications, customer journeys, usability test reports, and even pitch or presentation decks.
  3. Provide Case Studies – A good portfolio will include at least two to five results-based case studies. One page that covers – “The Ask”, “The Approach”, “The Solution”, and “The Results” with quantitative results and visuals to show you improved the product or business.

Our global, award-winning instructors host Hack To School Sept. 12, 13 and 14, as a chance for aspiring students to test drive their future, in demand careers. Free sessions will showcase RED’s experience-based learning by interacting with the latest tools, and diving deep into some of the best-kept secrets companies like Google, Facebook, and Shopify use every day.
